Man Takes Own Life Inside Johns Hopkins Hospital Restroom

A man fatally shot himself in the chest inside a Johns Hopkins Hospital emergency room restroom.

BALTIMORE – A man fatally shot himself inside the Johns Hopkins Hospital emergency room bathroom, just days after the medical center hosted a national symposium on safety inside hospitals.

Authorities discovered the dead body of Donald G. Wizeman, 69, with a gunshot wound to his chest shortly after midnight on April 15, Baltimore Sun reports.

It is unknown why Wizeman took his life. The incident is currently under investigation.

No one else was hurt during the incident and emergency care was not disrupted.

Experts say it can be difficult to totally restrict guns.

However, the latest episode, along with other hospital violence seen across the nation in recent years has prompted many medical facilities to increase the use of metal detectors, visitor screening and planning for emergency situations.
