Jon Hamm Hazing: Mad Men Start Accused of Brutal Hazing
Jon Hamm was charged with hazing and assault over 20 years ago as a member of the University of Texas Austin’s Sigma Nu fraternity.
Jon Hamm,was 20 years old at the time he allegedly hazed and assaulted a student pledging the Sigma Nu fraternity.
Jon Hamm, famous for his starring role in the AMC series Mad Men, was charged with hazing and assault in 1991 for his role in an alleged fraternity hazing incident.
According to details in arrest warrants, Hamm allegedly beat a pledging student with a paddle, set his pants on fire and dragged him by his genitals with a hammer claw as part of an initiation into the Sigma Nu fraternity at the University of Texas Austin.
Hamm, 44, was a sophomore at the time and the charges were eventually dismissed, according to dailymail.co.uk.
Court documents sayd the physical attacks lasted over two hours and included the victim being hit with a paddle thirty times. Hamm then allegedly took the pledging student to the basement where he lit his pants on fire and refused to let the student pat the flames out. After this Hamm allegedly “hooked the claw of a hammer underneath his genitals and led him by the hammer around the room.”
The alleged victim’s mother reportedly found him bruised the next day and reported the incident to police. Eight warrants were issued for Hamm and seven other Sigma Nu members and the fraternity was eventually shut down.
