Ithaca College Student Fatally Stabbed on Cornell Univ. Campus
Local police have opened a homicide investigation into the incident and are reviewing campus surveillance footage.
An Ithaca College student was killed in a stabbing during a large fight on Cornell University’s campus Aug. 28.
Anthony Nazaire, 19, was stabbed along with another student around 2 a.m. during a brawl. Nazaire and the other student were transported to Cayuga Medical Center, where Nazaire was pronounced dead, according to CBS News.
The fight broke out during a student-run fraternity event on Cornell’s campus. The Cornell chapter of Omega Psi Phi, a predominantly African-American fraternity, hosted the event.
Both schools released statements sending thoughts and prayers to the victims’ families.

“I hope [the attackers] get caught and justice is done,” Nazaire’s mother Katia Toussaint told the New York Daily News. “I didn’t send my son to school to get murdered.”
The Ithaca Police Department has opened a homicide investigation and is gathering witness accounts of the incident. They are encouraging anyone who saw the event or took videos to come forward. Police say surveillance footage of the fight shows “numerous persons” recording the fighting.
The student who was injured has not been identified by police.
A vigil for Nazaire was held on Ithaca’s campus at 4 pm Aug. 29.
