IAHSS Announces Newly Elected Board of Directors

Congratulations to Martin Green, Alan Butler and John White who are IAHSS’ newly elected Board Directors for 2016.

GLENDALE HEIGHTS, Ill.  – The International Association of Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) announces that Martin Green, CHPA, is its new president elect, Alan Butler, CHPA is its new vice president and treasurer, and John White, CHPA, CPP is its new member at large. Election ballots were sent to IAHSS voting members electronically during the month of October.

Green is manager of security, communications and emergency preparedness of Baycrest in Toronto, Canada and is now the third Canadian IAHSS president in the history of the association. Green has been working in security management in the healthcare sector for 35 years and has provided security design input to major redevelopment projects and designed and implemented security programs at major medical facilities within the province of Ontario. Green served as member at large on the IAHSS board of directors in 2011 and as vice president /secretary in 2013. Green was also the recipient of the 2013 IAHSS Presidential Award “in recognition of outstanding contributions, dedication and service to the Association and to the field of healthcare security & safety”.

“I am honored, humbled and proud to have been selected by my peers to represent them and our association as president-elect,” says Green. “I look forward to working with my fellow IAHSS board members, the executive team and the IAHSS members. Following the steps of our previous leaders, I am committed to promoting and growing our association not only in North America, but expanding our membership numbers in the European Union, Australia, Asia and the Middle East. Ours is a challenging environment in which to work, but I have always found it to be personally rewarding. I look forward to the challenge.”

Butler is vice president of healthcare security – central region at HSS and has 31 years of experience in both the public and private sectors. Butler has worked as the director of security for prestigious healthcare organizations such as the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics in Madison, HCA/Medical City Dallas Hospital and Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas. Butler has authored the “Supervisor Responsibilities” chapter in the IAHSS Supervisor Training Manual for Healthcare Security Personnel and is frequently requested to speak on healthcare security issues. Butler is a recognized subject matter expert on violence inside healthcare, specifically research and mitigation strategies for emergency department violence.

“As so many before me, I am honored and humbled for the opportunity to represent the profession that has given so much to so many,” he says. “I’m impressed with the direction IAHSS has taken under our new leadership and look forward to helping continue that momentum.”

White is president/CEO of Protection Management, LLC and has more than 39 years of security management, law enforcement and security consulting experience. White specializes in security consulting, security risk assessments and security planning, and has trained police and security officers in classroom settings as well as on the job. A long standing IAHSS member, White has contributed numerous times to the IAHSS Journal of Healthcare Protection Management, has also contributed to security related books and numerous trade journals. White is highly regarded in the healthcare security and safety industry is considered one of the top influencers in the industry.
