Many school districts now provide their students with laptops, tablets and other devices that can be connected to the Internet, both at school and at home. Additionally, students are connecting to school wifi networks with their own devices, such as their mobile phones.
Doing so can help children learn more effectively and take advantage of all the perks provided by 21st century technology. The challenge with the use of all of these devices, however, is safety and security.
Cyber bullying and sexting by students are two downsides, as is the potential for sexual predators to communicate directly with children and teens.
Fortunately, there are ways that schools and school districts can monitor students’ use of technology and social media so that they are protected. Monitoring solutions can event detect when a student is contemplating suicide or some other form of self harm, enabling school personnel to intervene quickly and save a child’s life.
