Florida State University will pay close to $1 million in a settlement with the woman who accused former star football player Jameis Winston of sexual assault in 2012.

Erica Kinsman had filed a federal Title IX lawsuit earlier in the month claiming the university had acted indifferently after she reported the alleged sexual assault, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The settlement stipulates FSU will pay Kinsman $250,000 while her lawyers will receive $700,000, although the lawyers said that breakdown will change.

Kinsman’s claims prompted a federal investigation by the Office for Civil Rights to determine whether or not the university complied with Title IX. Kinsman has also brought a lawsuit against Winston, alleging sexual battery, while Winston is countersuing for defamation.

After initially filing the complaint in 2012, the state attorney’s office didn’t charge Winston and Supreme Court Justice Major B. Harding ruled there was not enough evidence to indicate Winston violated the school’s student code of conduct.

Since the sexual assault case began, the university has hired a full-time Title IX director in addition to making other policy changes to better respond to sexual assault reports.
