Flash Flood Wrecks Good Samaritan Hospital
The hospital’s dining room, basement, kitchen, patient hallways and other areas were flooded as a result of nearly four inches of rain.
KEARNEY, Neb. – Good Samaritan Hospital officials are facing a major cleanup after a flash flood Saturday devastated the facility.
At least 3.89 inches of rain fell in just 45 minutes, overwhelming Kearney’s storm sewer system, NY Daily News reports. Although Good Samaritan’s storm water retention system and lift stations operated properly, the vast amount of water was too much.
The flash flooding broke through the hospital’s two-story ground-to-ceiling windows in the dining room, resulting in some windows being broken, Omaha.com reports.
In addition to the dining room being flooded, the hospital basement, the kitchen, some patient hallways and other areas such as sterile processing were water-logged.
No patients or staff members were harmed during the incident.
Hospital employees were able to restore all services for patients by Tuesday, NY Daily News reports.
