Extremist Group Hacks University of Washington Sites

A group calling for the death of Americans in Iraq compromised several University of Washington websites in January, prompting the school to shut them down.

Several University of Washington websites, including its enrollment and faculty sites, were hacked Jan. 29. The hackers placed a message on the webpages promising death to Americans in Iraq.

The university’s normal enrollment website was replaced by a picture of a cross and an American flag, with text that read: “Iraq is the Cemetery of American… hello to the death that awaits you at the hands of the Mujahideen in Iraq.” The message was signed by Moroccan Islamic Union-Mail, a hacking group that has targeted Jewish websites in the past, Q13 Fox News reports.

After the university became aware of the attack, it took down the defaced websites.
