Baltimore Tutor Charged After Seriously Injuring Student

The tutor was not screened by the school’s human resources department prior to being hired.

An elementary school tutor in Baltimore faces a series of charges after police say he gave a student a serious head injury when he slammed him against a wall Monday.

Timothy Randall Korr, 25, was arrested by Baltimore police at City Springs Elementary School after detectives viewed surveillance footage of the incident, according to the Baltimore Sun.

“To watch a child be basically manhandled like a sack of potatoes is incomprehensible,” Police Spokesman T.J. Smith says.

Police say Korr was carrying the 7-year-old student when he slammed the boy against a wall. It is unclear what prompted the incident.

The unidentified student was taken to Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he is receiving treatment. There has been no update on his condition.

After investigators watched footage of the incident, Korr was taken to Central Booking and now faces the following charges:

  • First degree child abuse

  • Second degree child abuse

  • First degree assault

  • Second degree assault

  • Reckless endangerment

  • Neglect

Korr has been fired by the Baltimore Curriculum Project, which operates the southwest Baltimore charter school. Because Korr’s position was created by the BCP, he was not screened by the school’s human resources department like most other employees.
