Alaska Regional Hospital Guard Accused of Sexually Assaulting Teen

The 17-year-old girl was alone in the hospital’s ER waiting room when the security guard allegedly sexually assaulted her.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Police have arrested an Alaska Regional Hospital security guard for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl who had been alone in the hospital’s emergency department waiting room.

Authorities said that the girl had fallen asleep in the empty waiting room when she was awakened at about 1 a.m. by a man in a security uniform. The guard, John Giacalone, told the girl that she needed to searched and led the teen to a small office and shut the door.

Giacalone asked if the girl had anything in her pockets, and when she said no, the guard allegedly told her that he needed to check for himself and she’d have to take her pants off. The teen then asked for a female officer, and Giacalone said none was available, Alaska Dispatch News reports.

When the teen refused to take down her pants, Giacalone allegedly took her pants and underwear off her hips and began to sexually assault the girl. During the attack, the teen told the guard to stop and attempted to fight him off.

When the assault was over, Giacalone allegedly told the teen not to tell anyone what had happened.

Giacalone has been charged with first- and second-degree sexual assault.
