Addressing Your Access Control and Video Surveillance Integration Challenges

Hospitals, schools and universities are adopting security technologies at a record pace, but ensuring that those systems can “talk” to each other can be a challenge. Fortunately, education and healthcare protection professionals can turn to Vanderbilt Industries for help with their access control and video surveillance systems integration issues.
Vanderbilt just acquired Dublin, Ireland-based Access Control Technologies (ACT), a company that designs and manufactures cloud-based access control and video management solutions known as ACT365. ACT365 is being previewed next week at ISC West in Las Vegas and will be introduced to the North American market later this year. The product offers a cloud-based access control and integrated video management solution that allows users to manage their systems from anywhere, at anytime and on any device.
“ACT365 offers schools, universities and healthcare facilities a flexible option for access control and video management – especially in situations where IT infrastructure may be lacking,” says Vanderbilt President Mitchell Kane. “ACT365 takes the pressure off of under-staffed security teams to constantly monitor situations and shifts it back to installers and integrators to offer robust protection for facilities.”
The company is also showcasing its core product offerings that have been tested and proven to meet both short- and long-term facility security goals. These products include lite blue, bright blue and the Vanderbilt Security Management System (SMS). Vanderbilt also offers a next-generation Video Management System (VMS) to allow for seamless integrated video and access control.
“The Vanderbilt SMS, coupled with VI Connect – a software package that incorporates information from event-based systems, human resources programs and other patient- or student-related software programs – is ideally suited for the education and healthcare markets,” says Kane. “Vanderbilt SMS offers a powerful, single-source solution for integrating a facility’s access control technologies, digital video and alarm monitoring systems. It’s also scalable, which is critical for an education or healthcare facility, so that security managers can easily add readers and monitoring solutions to the system as they grow over time without the costly add-ons. From this single software platform, users can manage alarms, photo ID badging, visitor management, elevator control, offline and online locks, advanced reporting, and more.”
According to Kane, VI Connect adds a unique element to the relationship between access control and IT infrastructure, allowing universities to tie in critical student information platforms through the customizable data management software to allow a single point of data entry that communicates directly with the Vanderbilt SMS.
“For example, meal plan databases, HR and event management software can all be integrated with the SMS to save the university time and reduce human error, streamlining and maintaining updates automatically,” he says.
Another noteworthy Vanderbilt development this year is its strategic partnership with Mercury Security, becoming an Authentic Mercury partner. The integration ensures Vanderbilt devices support Mercury Security’s hardware controllers and peripheral panels, enabling end users to build best-in-class security solutions, maximize existing investments, reduce costs and extend product lifecycles.
Additionally, 2016 was a year of acquisitions, as Vanderbilt added significant investments in new technology and intellectual property.
“This year, Vanderbilt is focused on making sure those investments are nurtured with product lines that are widely available in a number of geographic regions, as well as streamlining operations, continuing collaboration between departments and focusing on offering feature-rich access control, intrusion, video surveillance, video management and cloud-based solutions,” Kane says.
