Jury Finds Sandusky Guilty on 45 Sex Abuse Charges

Former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was found guilty of 45 out of 48 charges of child sex abuse today.

The jury on the case deliberated for 21 hours, reports Reuters. Sandusky was accused of sexually abusing 10 boys over a span of 15 years. Some of the assaults occurred at Penn State facilities.

Sentencing is scheduled for September. Sandusky could spend the rest of his life in prison.

As a result of the case, which came to light when Sandusky was arrested Nov. 5, Penn State football coach Joe Paterno and its president, Graham Spanier were fired. Gary Schultz, the school’s former senior vice president for finance and business, and Tim Curley, the former athletic director, were charged with perjury and failure to report to authorities what they knew about the allegations.

The U.S. Department of Education has launched a probe into whether Penn State violated the Clery Act when it did not report child sexual abuse allegations to the proper authorities.
