91 Percent of Colleges Report Zero Incidents of Rape

The study was conducted using the data provided to the Department of Education through the Clery Act.

A federal study of Clery Act data showed that the vast majority of colleges reported zero instances of rape in 2014.

The data revealed that only nine to 11 percent of colleges nationwide reported at least one incident of dating violence, domestic violence, stalking or rape, according to aauw.org.

The American Association of University Women (AAUW) conducted the study, which was released by the Department of Education.

VP of Government Relations at AAUW Lisa Maatz said the lack of reported incidents shows students don’t feel comfortable enough with their school’s services or processes for handling reports of sexual assault or violence.

The data also showed that schools reporting one type of incident were more likely to report other types of incidents.

Under the Clery Act colleges are required to disclose crime statistics, including sexual assaults, for their campuses in annual reports.
