CHARLOTTE, N.C. ─ The University of North Carolina at Charlotte (UNCC) plans to start an Alcoholics Anonymous program for students this fall. Officials hope it will be the start of a comprehensive effort to combat alcoholism, called the collegiate recovery program.
The collegiate recovery program could include providing students a safe place to meet with other students who are committed to their sobriety, the Charlotte Observer reports. Additionally, it would include 12 step meetings twice a week, relapse prevention seminars and possibly scholarships to those in the program who stay sober at least six months.
UNCC officials said they plan to survey students about what would be helpful for people in alcohol recovery.
