TORRANCE, Calif.

Following its reporting of the 25 “most crime-ridden campuses,” conservative blog The Daily Beast has posted a list of the 25 safest campuses, according to their methodology.

The blog compiled the list based on statistics provided by the colleges to the federal Department of Education, as required by the Clery Act, about crimes on and near campus, including murder, assault, sexual offenses and robberies.

To be considered, the colleges needed to have a minimum enrollment of 6,000 and offer on-campus dorm housing. Also, community colleges were excluded.

Schools were judged on a per-capita basis to level the playing field between larger and smaller colleges.

The New York Institute of Technology and Farmingdale State University (both on Long Island) placed at the top of the list. Grand Valley State University in Allandale, Mich.; Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion; and Idaho State University in Pocatello rounded out the top five.

The list of schools is presented in a photo gallery.
