N.C. Agricultural and Technical University Deploys NICE Inform System

North Carolina Agricultural and Technical (N.C. A&T) State University has employed the NiceVision digital video solution since 2004, to help ensure a safe campus environment. Now the University is expanding its security capabilities through the addition of NICE Inform for authentic multimedia incident reconstruction. NICE Inform and other NICE solutions are being provided to the University through The CBORD Group.

Like many universities, N.C. A&T has traditionally employed solutions for voice and video that were distinct and separate. When the University's Public Safety Department replaced its outdated voice recording system recently, it opted for an integrated multimedia solution from NICE.

John Matherson, Director of the N.C. A&T Aggie OneCard Center, explains: "We wanted to find a solution that was more robust and would give us functionality beyond simple call recording," he said. "We liked the fact that NICE Inform would allow us to go back post-partum, after an incident, and combine our public safety communications with our video content for complete event reconstruction," said Matherson. "That really sealed the deal for us."

Both video and voice recordings can be crucial to investigations and incident reconstructions. Captured video can yield clues about what transpired in the field of vision of the CCTV camera. Voice recordings can reveal when a call for help came in, what was said, and what the department's response was. NICE Inform bridges multi-source, multi-format, multimedia information, such as voice and video, into a single, authentic incident reconstruction, synched by time and accessible from one screen.

Currently, N.C. A&T's NiceVision solution captures video from the 256 cameras spread throughout the campus. Using NICE for voice recording, the University will capture more than 70,000 calls that come into the N.C. A&T Public Safety communication department on an annual basis. Using NICE Inform, the Department will now be able to reconstruct incidents and events from captured voice and video content and continue to build on its proactive security efforts and successful campus safety track record.

"Here at N.C. A&T, our student population is at 11,000 and growing," said Major Kelly White, Patrol Operations Commander for the Public Safety Department of N.C. A&T University. "Our mission, first and foremost, is to create a safe environment in which our students can live, learn and flourish. We take great pride in the fact that our security and safety standards meet or exceed those of other nationally known urban campuses, and we look forward to further enhancing our relationship with NICE Systems and The CBORD Group."
