WESTPORT, Conn. — After the Westport Board of Education members unanimously approved a request to spend $100,000 in town funds for a security audit, many community members here questioned the cost during Wednesday’s Representative Town Meeting (RTM).
The school board hopes to hire Manhattan-based Kroll Inc. to conduct a security review of Westport’s public schools, as well as the school district’s learning center. During the evaluation, Kroll personnel will examine architectural protective measures, operational guidelines and the district’s technical security systems, according to Westport News. Kroll employees will charge $175 to $450 an hour for the audit, based on the level of expertise of the person performing the work.
Originally, school board officials sought a $50,000 allocation for the security study. During its last security review, conducted by SafirRosetti (now known as GuidePost Solutions), in 2007, the district spend $35,000. However, district personnel maintain that GuidePost Solutions does not have the same pedigree as Kroll.
