For universities and hospitals, staffing and salary results are mixed, with two in five respondents saying their departments hired additional employees in 2010. K-12 campuses and districts, however, continue to struggle.
Police/security department staffing levels pose significant challenges, while administrator support for overall campus public safety is very high.

Two weeks after the school shooting at Kelly Elementary School, the San Diego Unified School District is considering slashing its police department because of budget cuts. The police department has 46 fully sworn officers, 20 community officers, nine dispatchers and four office staff.
